When the Build's Done, the Ground Is Still Bare

A new build or a big clearing job leaves the ground stripped to dirt. A homeowner wants the yard back, and a builder often has a replanting condition on the permit to meet. Either way, the trees have to go back in once the digging and grading are done.

Planting a real tree is closer to tree installation than gardening. Bigger trees need real depth for their roots, and Victoria’s rocky ground doesn’t give that up to a shovel, so the excavator and the auger do the digging. We open the pit, break through rock where we hit it, set the tree at the right height, and firm good soil in around the roots.

The tree that thrives in one yard can struggle two streets over, depending on the soil, the drainage, and the sun. We plant species suited to those conditions and set each one where it has room to grow. Strategic tree planting is just putting the right tree in the right spot.

The same crew and machines that cleared and graded the lot put the trees back, so it’s one job, not another contractor to line up.

How the Job Runs

From the Quote to Trees in the Ground

We start with a site visit and a straight quote. We look at the spot, the soil, and the access, talk through what you want the trees to do, and give you a written price and timeline.
We pick the species and mark the spots. We match the right species to your lot and set where each tree goes, with room to grow and clear of the drains, the septic field, and the foundation. We check for buried lines before anything gets dug.
We dig, set, and backfill. The excavator or auger opens each pit, we break through rock where we hit it, set the tree at the right depth, and firm good soil in around the roots.
We grade around them and walk it with you. The ground gets shaped and cleaned up around the new trees, and we do a final walk so you can sign off.

Before a planting job, most people ask the same handful of things, what it costs, whether we supply the trees, where each one goes, and how big a tree we can plant.

How much does tree planting cost in Victoria, BC?

Tree planting cost in Victoria depends on the number and size of the trees, how hard the ground is to dig, and how easily equipment can reach the spots. Planting a few small trees is a small job; setting mature trees in rocky ground with a machine is a larger one. Send photos and rough measurements and we'll give you an accurate written quote.

How long does tree planting take?

Most residential tree planting is done in a day or two. Larger jobs, or ones with hard digging and many trees, take longer, and you'll get an estimated timeline with your written quote.

Can you get equipment in to plant on a tight lot?

Yes. We use compact excavators and an auger that fit tight access, so trees can go in close to fences and buildings without tearing up the rest of the yard. We plan the route in before the machines arrive.

Do you supply the trees, or do I?

We handle the planting itself: digging, setting, and backfilling each tree. Whether we source the trees or you supply your own is something we sort out when we quote, so you're not left guessing.

How do you decide where each tree goes?

Roots chase water, so we keep new trees well off the drains, the septic field, and the foundation, and we leave room for the size they'll reach. We put them where rain runs off instead of pooling. Because we work the ground for a living, we plan around what's under it before we dig.

Can you plant large or mature trees, not just small ones?

Yes. Mature trees need a proper pit and a machine to place them, which is where our excavator and auger come in, especially in Victoria's rocky ground. A sapling and a shovel you can manage yourself; a large tree in hard ground is a job for the equipment.
